Galantamine research. Daffodil plants (Narcissus 'Ice Follies') being cultivated hydroponically in a laboratory at Newcastle University, UK. The purpose of the project is to research the synthesis of galatamine, an alkaloid found in the bulbs of Narcissus and related species. Galantamine is utilised by the pharmaceutical industry in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The plants are being grown in gullies containing differing nutrient solutions to determine whether composition of the solution has an effect on the amount of galantamine produced by the plants.
