Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of the posterior pituitary gland (neurohypophysis). The neurohypophysis parenchyma (brown) shows many axons full of neurosecretory granules and pituicytes (light blue), a glial cell specific to the posterior pituitary gland. At top is a pituicyte containing lipid droplets, a feature only found in this cell type. The connective tissue stroma, with blood capillaries (red), is green.
