Column of Tears, Basilica Cistern, Istanbul, Turkey, 2013. Interior of the largest of several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city, erected in the 6th century during the reign of Justinian I. The column is so called because it is wet and thus appears to be crying, unlike the other columns.
