Broad-bodied chaser dragonfly (Libellula depressa) at rest on a campion (Silene dioica) seed head. The broad-bodied chaser is a common dragonfly in Europe and central Asia. Females and immature males have a golden-brown abdomen, whilst the mature males have a blue abdomen. They are usually found at ponds and small lakes. Its broad appearance separates it from other species. The broad-bodied chaser regularly returns to the same perch after flights across the water looking for insects. Photographed in Dorset, UK, in May 2020.
