Wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi), a member of the family Araneidae. This is a large and easily identifiable orb weaving spider whose abominable markings give the spider its name. Normally found in warmer parts of mainland Europe, its distribution is steadily moving north and it can also be found in the southern parts of the UK. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in August.
