Photographed during a visit to the recently captured Wytschaete Ridge near Messines in Belgium, King George V (right) made several trips to the Western Front during the war. On one visit in 1915 he fell off his horse and broke his pelvis. In 1917, sensitive of the Royal Family\'s German background, George changed their name from the German sounding Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor.
