Coloured ultrasound scan of a plaque of a 44 year old male patient with Peyronie's disease. Peyronie's disease is a connective tissue disorder that causes the penis to bend when erect. The curvature is due to the growth of fibrous plaques in the soft tissue of the penis. The condition may cause pain, erectile dysfunction or difficult sexual intercourse. Although it can occur in any male it is most common in caucasian men over 40. Treatment is with surgery, but only as a last resort. This plaque measures 4 millimetres in length.
