Conceptual illustration of a Permian temperate forest on the southern landmass of Gondwana featuring the autumn deciduous Glossopteris and Glossopteridales, which shed it's leaves before the cold dark winters of the low latitude climate. This thick organic peat formed the southern Permian coal formations of the Bowen Basin, Sydney Basin, Gippsland Basin, and the North St Vincent Basin as well as the remains of ancient fossil tree forest of Antarctica.
