Immature kidney cortex, light micrograph. The renal cortex consists of the cortical labyrinth and the medullary rays. The linear array of tubules are medullary rays (Ferrein's pyramid). The renal glomeruli are still maturating with dark immature peripheral glomeruli and mature glomeruli in deeper zones of the cortex.
