3D map of the Bennu asteroid, Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) image. The colours represent the distance from the centre of Bennu. Dark blue areas are furthest away, through green, yellow and orange to the closest areas in red. The difference between the furthest and closest points is approximately 60 metres. The OSIRIS-REx spacecraft launched in 2016 and arrived at the asteroid 101955 Bennu in December 2018. As well as obtaining samples for return to Earth in 2023, it is studying the asteroid. Image obtained by the OSIRIS-REx Laser Altimeter (OLA) between the 12th and 17th February 2019.
