This patient (named as a 62-year-old Louisa Blaney) was an inmate at an unidentified British insane asylum where this text and photographic record was produced, dating from 1876. At the time, it was thought that photographing mental patients gave an insight into their conditions and the progress of the treatments provided at the time.
