Thomas Martin Lowry (1874-1936), British chemist. Lowry is best known for his contribution to the Bronsted-Lowry acid-base theory. Lowry was Professor of Chemistry at the University of London from 1920 to his death. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 1914, and carried out war work on artillery shells and trench warfare. He was made CBE for this work. Lowry was an active member of the Faraday Society, serving as its president from 1928 to 1930.
