The brilliant Diamond Ring shines in this composite image just before second contact before the start of totality during the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse as seen from Bandit Springs, Oregon in the United States. Baily's Beads are parts of the Sun's photosphere that are not yet covered by the Moon, shining through valleys between mountains on the limb of the Moon. As the very last Baily's Bead shines the inner corona becomes visible and looks like a ring around the Moon with this bead shining like a diamond.
