Facing the Adriatic Sea, Split is Croatia's second largest city, in the Dalmatia region. It is a transportation hub, and popular tourist destination. Split was started over 2,000 years ago by the Greeks and later developed by the Romans. The bell tower of St. Duje Cathedral is the symbol of the city. Marjan Hill is covered by pine forest and surrounded by the city of Split and the sea. It was a park for Diocletian's Palace in the third century. It has beaches, trails, a zoo and recreation facilities. The hill offers spectacular views.
