The Passaic River is known for chronic flooding during periods of heavy rainfall or snowmelt, especially in the area where the Passaic River joins the Pompton River in Passaic County, New Jersey. The two rivers form a sizeable flood plain, and regularly flood homes and businesses. There have been 10 floods since 1968, some resulting in deaths and millions in damage. This view was taken during the flood of 1992.
