Wall paper made from stucco : interiors from houses and palaces. Particularly famous for Samarra is its carved stucco, with once decorated the dadoes of houses and palaces. There are three different styles. Two styles show vine leaves, grapes and leaf tendrils closely follow the tradition of Late Antiquity. There is then the flat cut 'bevelled' or 'slant' style of carving with stylised ornaments repeated in endless series. This was a ground-breaking invention and widely used in the Abbasid Empire in the 9th and 10th century. Photo via Newscom
