The Palazzo Vecchio. Town hall of Florence, Italy. A huge Romanesque fortress-palace overlooking the Piazza della Signoria. Designed by the architect Arnolfo di Cambio in 1299. A stonework cubicle building forms the base, crowned with a projected battlement clock tower. The current clock was made by Vincenzo Viviani in 1667. Arches in the structure are decorated with the 9 coats of arms of the Florentine Republic. Photo via Newscom
