Motor gliding demonstration at Hendon. Captain Hubert S. Broad in his DH 53 (De Havilland) "Humming Bird" light monoplane circling a pole being held by a person. Captain Broad, Chief Test Pilot of de Havilland, flew a Moth into Filton that was 啍owed' to the Victoria Rooms to add publicity to the inaugural meeting of the Bristol & Wessex Aeroplane Club. Broad gave details of the Moth which was the first practical club aeroplane with a reputed running cost of 2d per mile inclusive. Captain Broad was the British contender for the Schneider Cup in 1925. The RAF disposed of all eight DH53s in 1927. Cave-Chinn, The Times, 29 October 1923
