General view of one of the Experiment Halls of the AGS (Alternating Gradient Synchrotron) accelerator at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Long Island. Accelerated particles from the AGS are taken from the accelerator ring itself and fed by different beam pipes to the various detectors. This Experiment Hall contains three or four separate detectors, but they are encased in large blocks of concrete which are used to shield the radiation. The particle beams are coming from the top right hand corner of the photograph and fanning out inside the various lines of concrete blocks to the detectors. This is a typical view of a modern fixed target detector experiment hall. (June '84)
