Illustration of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells (blue) attacking Hodgkins lymphoma cells (centre). Healthy red (discs) and white (translucent) blood cells are shown in the background. Hodgkins lymphoma, or Hodgkins disease, is a malignant (cancerous) tumour (neoplasm) that develops in the lymphoreticular system and originates from lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. It is differentiated from other lymphomas by the large multinucleated cells (Sternberg-Reed cells). CAR-T therapy is a type of immunotherapy that genetically modifies a patients own T cells, a form of white blood cell, to recognise and destroy cancer cells.
