Spindle galaxy (NGC 5866), optical image. This lenticular (disc-shaped) galaxy lies around 44 million light years from Earth in the constellation Draco. From Earth we see the disc edge-on, hence the spindle-shape. Dust lanes are visible in blue and red. Newly- formed stars extend outwards in blue streaks from the edges of the disc. This photograph was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope (HST).
