Anti-inflammatory drug. Bottle of water and powder and syringe for an emergency injection of the drug hydrocortisone. This is also a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands. In drug form it is used to treat deficiencies in disorders of these glands, and also in its main role as an anti-inflammatory. The sterile water (centre) is injected into the bottle (left) with the needle. Once the powder has dissolved, a one-off injection can be carried out. Hydrocortisone is used to treat an extremely wide range of inflammatory symptoms, arising from skin disorders like dermatitis and psoriasis, as well as rheumatism, systemic lupus erythematosus, and also cancers like leukaemia and lymphomas.
