The chloroplasts, essential for photosynthesis, are clearly visible filling the cells, highlighting the mosss role in carbon fixation. The cell walls display striking birefringence colours, a characteristic phenomenon when viewed under polarised light microscopy. Magnification: x60 when printed with the longest axis at 10 centimetres long.
