Patient being treated with cryotherapy for pyogenic granuloma. A pyogenic granuloma is neither pyogenic (producing pus) nor a granuloma (inflamed cells). It is a harmless overgrowth of tiny blood vessels, which often appears after minor injury and is prone to bleeding. The growth will normally disappear without treatment but can be removed by electrocautery, cryotherapy or more conventional surgery. Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to kill and freeze the tissue. For a sequence showing treatment of this pyogenic granuloma see C060/4272 to C060/4274.
