Trichoscope image of tufted folliculitis on the head of a 24 year old African-American male patient. In this condition tufts form where several hairs exit from the same hair follicle, leading to areas of scarring alopecia (hair loss) in between them. It is a rare condition and may be caused by trauma, infection, inflammation or burns, although often the cause is not known. Treatment is of any underlying condition or the symptoms, but there is no cure.
