The slaver "Boladora." When the British Navy was putting down the slave trade in the eighteen-twenties; many slavers were really powerful pirates; and were quite ready to fight. The captain of the famous slaver Boladora; mounting 4 big guns and carrying over 60 men; vowed that he would blow the little naval schooner Pickle out of the water and hang her commanding officer; Lieutenant J B B MHardy; who had been very active against the slavers. The Pickle carried only 3 small guns; and her crew consisted of 30 men and 6 boys; yet she fought the big slave-ship furiously for an hour and a half; and finally despite heavy losses; rid the seas of one of the greatest scoundrels of the day.
