Ein Quacksalber war ein herumziehender Wunderdoktor; der auf freien Platzen mit grosser Beredsamkeit seine meist selbstgefertigten Salben und Heiltranke anpries; ohne von wirklicher Arzneikunst etwas zu verstehen. Solche marktschreierischen Kurpfuscher hatten; trotzdem sie mehr verdarben als nutzten; grossen Zulauf. Das Gesetz gegen Kurpfuschertum hat das Ubel nicht ganz beseitigt. Translation: Quack. A quack doctor was an itinerant miracle doctor who eloquently praised his mostly self-made ointments and healing potions in open spaces without understanding anything about the real art of medicine. Such blatant quacks; although they spoiled more than they used; were very popular. The law against quackery did not completely eliminate the evil.
