The Siege of Carmarthen Castle; 1145. Following the capture of Carmarthen Castle by Howell the Tall in 1145; the Franks and Flemings returned in a great host to retake it. But Meredith; who commanded; had few to defend the walls; and the besiegers brought up scaling ladders on every side. But having climbed to within reach of the embrasures; they were hurled back again and again; and were finally compelled to raise the siege.
