Yoshitsune inspecting the Defences of the Taira Army. When Yoritomo rebelled against the rule of the Taira family in Japan his brother; Yoshitsune; joined him and played an important part in his ultimate success. After a certain indecisive battle on the plains Yoshitsune led during the night 3;000 men to the summit of a pass near Kobe; and inspected his enemies' defences without their knowledge. Sweeping down upon the rear of their army from this favourable position he caused the utmost confusion in their ranks and gained a great victory.
