The Last Act of Malik Naib Kafur; AD 1316. In the course of an extraordinary career; a Hindu eunuch slave became the renegade Muhammadan favourite of 'Alau'ddin Khilji of Delhi; on whose behalf he executed a wonderful series of raids into Southern India which are still remembered. He then became 'Alau'ddin's Minister; and on his death controlled the country as an atrocious tyrant. One night on retiring to rest he took a sword from an attendant; flourished it wildly and gave it back; whereon he was at once run through and killed.
