The Phocaean Fleet defeats the Carthaginians. The Phocaens settled in Corsica had become pirates. The Carthaginians and Etruscans; whose commerce had suffered by their raids; combined to make an attack upon them. A naval engagement took place about 536 BC; and resulted in the defeat of the Carthaginians; but at a ruinous cost to the victors.
