Lymphoedema in the ankles of a 78 year old female patient. This is a long-term condition that causes swelling in the bodys tissues, typically in the arms or legs. It can make it difficult to wear certain clothes, jewellery, and watches. The condition develops due to an impaired lymphatic system, where the vessels are unable to adequately drain fluid and other materials, leading to a build-up in the tissues. While there is no cure for lymphedema, the main symptoms can be managed by minimising fluid build-up through methods such as wearing compression garments, taking good care of the skin, and regular exercise.
