Cyanosed feet from peripheral vascular disease (PVD) in a 87 year old female patient. PVD is a slow and progressive circulation disorder. It is caused by a build-up of fatty deposits in the blood vessels which restricts blood supply, with the legs and feet most commonly affected. When blood cannot travel freely, cyanosis can occur. Cyanosis is when the skin, lips and/or nails turn a bluish tone. Treating PVD is largely through lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, dietary changes and moderating alcohol consumption.
