SV2A plays a crucial role in neurotransmission and is specifically located in synaptic vesicles, which are small, membrane-bound sacs that store neurotransmitters. Mutations in the SV2A gene have been linked to several neurological disorders, including epileptic encephalopathy, a severe form of epilepsy characterised by seizures and developmental delays.
