Buildings close to the coastline in Pluit district, Northern Jakarta, which have their foundations and ground levels permanently under water. This is mainly due to land subsistence resulting in the properties now being below sea-level. Adverse weather conditions, resulting in heavy rainfall and flooding and poor sewerage infrastructure are also contributors. Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is situated in a delta of 13 rivers with 40 percent of land below sea level.
