Dolomite is a double carbonate of calcium and magnesium [CaMg(CO3)2]. As a rock forming mineral it usually occurs as a white or off-white massive rock formed by diagenesis; crystals are less common. The tabular crystals in this image illustrate the rhombohedral crystal class to which dolomite belongs. Actual size of this sample is 70 x 105 mm.
