Glendonite is an unusual form of calcite (CaCO3). It originates as crystalline masses of ikaite, a hydrated calcium carbonate mineral formed in near freezing water. It is unstable at warmer temperatures. A popular descriptive name for these red-brown crystal groups is rose stone.
