Atacamite is a copper chloride hydroxide mineral. It is a comparatively rare mineral, formed from primary copper minerals. Its crystal system is orthorhombic, and the most usual crystal habitat is slender prismatic in bright to dark green. It also occurs as fibrous, and occasionally granular or massive. It is named after the Atacama Desert of northern Chile where it was first discovered.
