Light micrograph of sex cords in a foetal ovary. Clusters of clear cells (primary oocytes) are surrounded by dark stromal cells. Primary oocytes show large nuclei that are in prophase of the first meiotic division (leptotene, zygotene and pachytene). The sex cords develop into the ovarian follicles.
