Remarkable oak of La Resistance in winter in the For?t de Troncais - Allier. This upright oak with its well-trimmed bole, called the "Ch?ne des Quarante metres" by the lumberjacks, was the object of many a mans infatuation and quarrel. Initially named "Ch?ne Marechal Petain" and classified by the latter in 1940, it was clandestinely renamed "Ch?ne Gabriel Peri" in 1944. Since 1982, this remarkable, centuries-old tree has officially been known as the "Ch?ne de la Resistance". Rumors that the tree was "machine-gunned" during the Liberation appear to be false; the marks visible on the trunk are from the claws of loppers. Circumference: 3.68 m; Height: 41 m; Birth date: 1640. The Troncais forest is considered one of the most beautiful oak forests in Europe. It was awarded the For?t dException label in 2018. This label is a guarantee of excellence - Allier - France
