American Police Officers Counting Money Found in Relation To the Lindberghs Kidnapping Case, 1930s. "The crime of the century" - the Lindbergh kidnapping case, USA. In [a] rented garage across the street [from Hauptmanns house], they found 13,750 dollars in bills whose serial numbers check with the notes planted by the law in various ransom payments. It was the passing of one of these notes to a gas station attendant that led to the arrest. The attendant wrote the car number on the face of the bill, which eventually proved to be a ransom note. From "Time To Remember - The Tough Guys", 1930s (Reel 3); documentary film, mainly about life in depression- and gangster-hit America.
