Back of a young girl with Turner syndrome. This is a rare genetic disorder caused by the absence of a second sex chromosome. It only affects females and occurs at a rate of around one in every 3000 female births. It results in stunted growth, retarded sexual development (leading to infertility), webbing of the skin of the neck and a broad chest.
