Ferromanganese nodules collected from seamounts (underwater mountains) in the Pacific Ocean. These are nodules containing iron and manganese. In geology, nodules are rocks which grow outwards radially around a central nucleus, forming concentric layers. The contents of nodules found in the sea can provide information about changes to seawater chemistry over time.
