Illustration of the Euclid telescope in space above Earth. Euclid launched on 1st July 2023. It is part of the European Space Agencys (ESA) Cosmic Vision programme. The mission aims to explore the nature of dark energy and dark matter in the universe. The Euclid telescope will create a large-scale map of the universe by observing billions of galaxies from its position in space 1.5 million km away from Earth, known as Lagrangian point (L2). It will explore how the universe has expanded and formed over cosmic history.
