Arthritic hand of a patient who has palmoplantar psoriasis on the sole of their foot. Psoriasis is a skin condition where excessive growth of skin cells can lead to itchy, scaly, thickened patches (plaques) of skin which may become infected. Palmoplantar psoriasis affects the palms and/or soles of the feet. Psoriasis is sometimes triggered by emotional stress, some infections or drugs, although often the cause is unknown. Arthritis is a degenerative joint disease that results from the breakdown of joint cartilage and the underlying bone, resulting in joint swelling, pain and a decreased range of motion.
