Clarified sugarcane (Saccharum sp.) juice samples (yellow liquid) being tested for cane sugar content. The juice is being filtered using filter paper to remove sediment and will then be run through a saccharimeter, a device for determining sugar concentration. Sugarcane juice can be used to produce ethanol, offering a renewable, less environmentally harmful source of fuel. It is already widely used as such in countries like Brazil.
