Voyager image showing the Great Red Spot (GRS) on Jupiter. The GRS is a large storm system that has existed for at least a few hundred years. It consists of cold clouds that rotate anticlockwise several kilometres above the surrounding cloud deck and has a distinctive reddish hue, which can range from deep red to pale pink. With a width of around 16,350 kilometres it is large enough to fit Earth within it. Image obtained by the Voyager 1 spacecraft in 1979.
