Brook House, Isle of Wight, the residence of Mr. Seely, M.P., visited by Garibaldi, 1864. ...a view of Brook House, near Freshwater, towards the western end of the island - a pleasant mansion in a sheltered site, with much wild and picturesque coast scenery around it. The lord of the manor is Mr. Seely, M.P. for Lincoln, who has done himself the honour of having Garibaldi for a guest during the whole week, from Monday, the 4th inst. until Monday last. In the time of Henry VII. the lady of the manor, Dame Joanna Bowerman, entertained that King in her house, where Mr. Seelys house now stands. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
