Sheldon Lee Glashow (born 1932), US physicist. Glashow studied at Cornell University and received a PhD in Physics from Harvard University. In the late 1960s, Glashow, together with Weinberg and Salam, proposed the initial theory of electroweak interactions, which unifies two fundamental forces of nature. Their work was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1979. Glashow was also part of the team that predicted the existence of the charm quark, a fundamental particle. Photographed at CERN in December 1979.
