The Prince Consorts Oak, planted by Her Majesty in the Flemish farm, near Windsor, as a memorial of the late Prince Consort, 1862. The Queen proceeded on Wednesday week to the Flemish Farm for the purpose of planting an oak in memorial of the Prince Consort...Major-General Seymour and Major-General the Hon. A. N. Hood were in attendance on the ground, as were also Mr. Menzies (deputy surveyor), Mr. Cole (the head park-keeper), and others employed in Windsor Park and the Royal household. The site was selected in consequence of its having been that upon which the Prince Consort left off shooting upon his last visit to the park. Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, husband of Queen Victoria, died aged 42 from what his doctors at the time believed was typhoid fever. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
